My 3 friends and I with one A.I player decided to play against 3 of the most challenging A.I players. I shall explain my experience in a short story. PleasantRhea's Experience Absolutely amazing, riveting gameplay for even the most experienced RTS players. If you like rts genre but have fear to play them because they hard, maybe you should try BAR. The irony is, that being in alpha stage BAR is pretty polished in terms of gamedesign and its in-game mechanics. Not only regular bots, but the real modes, making out of BAR tower-defence-alike game where you should defend AND you can push the line. It feels much more REAL strategy and warfare game than WC3, SC2, AOE2 (with all respect to them), because of scales, economy mechanics and huge limits (2000 is default can be raised in settings to 10k). BAR has 2 factions with different signature buildings and units, great micro and macro gameplay, where macro means not only building economy, but also macro control at the battlefield. Discord channel is there for you, where you can ask questions, have fun and even ask to teach you personally (what I did). And now, 20 years later, I managed to overcome the barrier and started to play at least at decent level against other players in "Beyond All Reason". Ofc, it's the hardest IMO genre to play against others. Sadly enough, I always performed worst in RTS'es. And I always liked multiplayer games of all kinds.

Witchgeneral's Experience I love RTS genre all my life since DUNE 2 as my real first RTS game launched on Pentium-1 based system (100 MHz).

AI in the game is formidable, and really, considering the game is !!free!!, personally I can't complain, so if you like Total Annihilation style games, or just want to give RTS a try, this is a solid choice! Just be ready, the game is hard and punishing if you neglect optimizing your economy, or if you don't micro your armies! See More If you ever get bored of PvP games theres interesting PvE modes, not to mention you can mix PvP with PvE since the lobbies are very customizable. I'm a new player and I never got sh#t talked or dissrespected. The community is good and large team vs team games happen often. Large unit variety and tactical depth, many ways to play the game, turtling, more aggresive, rushing better units, you name it. You can draw formations for your units when moving them! You can draw !!on the map itself!! and place markers to coordinate allies or warn them about danger, first time seeing that in an RTS game. It has one of the best controls I've seen in an RTS game. ProductiveCaelus's Experience Total Annihilation style game, it's very smooth and runs well with high number of units and explosions on the screen. I have easily sunk 5k+ hours into this game and still have fun with it, highly recommend See More The best part is it's a game made by people that play it, so any problem you have with UI/controls/QoL will have been solved already and you need only turn it on in the options. Has great scale from 1v1 all the way up to 8v8 matches on big maps with varied strategies. Hiding units behind enemy structures to avoid turret fire, dancing units around to avoid missile fire, dipping into craters to hide from enemy radar, just micro that MATTERS feels so good and rewarding. No other RTS ever compares to this game, it has the perfect balance of micro and macro where your clicks feel important, not just send a blob that way and hope it achieves something.

The latest version of BAR has been massively updated into a modern day RTS in terms of graphics, sounds and UI. ShoX's Experience I have played this game in its various states for 16 years now, tried almost every other RTS on the market, this is the only one I come back to time and time again.
